The Voice As a Portal To Our Individuality
Each of us carries a voice unlike any other: an expression so intimate, so personal, so sacred. Our voice is not simply a tool for communication. It is the vibration of our being, shaped by breath, emotion, memory, and our unique spirit.
And yet, it is often the part of ourselves we struggle to embrace.
Why?
Because somewhere along the way, we were told our voice was too much, or not enough. Too loud, too soft, too strange, too fragile. We were laughed at, silenced, corrected, or ignored. We learnt to fear the sound of ourselves.
How Our VOice Gets Blocked
For many of us, the wounds began in childhood. Perhaps we were told to be quiet, not to interrupt, not to make a scene. At school, speaking up felt dangerous. In the workplace or at home, our truth didn’t feel welcome. In moments of fear or shame, we swallowed our words.
The more different your voice is – whether in sound, tone, accent or message – the harder it can be to accept, and at the same time, the more powerful it can be, once expressed.
There is no such thing as a bad voice.
Every voice is unique.
Every voice matters.
And every voice holds the power to heal.

The HEaling Power of Voices
Our voice is not just sound. It’s a bridge between worlds – the inner and the outer, the seen and the unseen. It carries thoughts, yes, but it can also transmit deep emotional and spiritual energy. When we use our voice with presence and intention, we don’t just speak, we transmit.
Love. Grief. Forgiveness. Joy. Ancient memory. Divine consciousness.
Our voice becomes a vessel. A medicine.
Wisdom From Shamanic Traditions
Across many shamanic traditions, the voice is a sacred instrument of healing and transformation.
In the Amazon, Icaros – the sacred healing songs – are received directly from the spirit of the plants. These are not songs about healing. They are the healing. Sung during ceremonies with ayahuasca and other teacher plants, they call forth visions, restore balance, guide souls through the unseen.
Siberian Shamans and the Sami of Lapland use their voice to invoke animal spirits, enter altered states, shapeshift, and connect with the land. They sing not about the spirit – they sing it into being. Their songs open portals between the physical and spiritual realms.
The voice becomes a tool for diagnosis, invocation, transformation, and deep communion with nature and spirit.

Awakening the Shamanic Voice
To awaken your own shamanic voice, you must begin not in the mind, but in the heart. Let go of judgement, of needing to sound “good.” Forget what you’ve been told about singing or speaking properly.
To sing from the heart, you need to be willing to sound strange. To be raw. To let emotion move through you. To trust the impulse rising in your chest.
The songs you need already exist in the unseen worlds. You are not composing them. You are receiving or remembering them.
When you open your voice from that deep place within, something begins to shift. You come home to yourself. You liberate something ancient. And often, what you thought was weakness in your voice becomes your greatest strength.
Let your voice be a prayer, a poem, a howl.
Let it tremble, rise, roar.
Let it be wild. Let it be holy. Let it be yours.
My Personal Journey With The Voice
Through my own shamanic practice, I’ve come to know my voice – and finally love it.
For most of my life, I believed I had a “bad” voice, which sounded too high-pitched, and sometimes even girly. I was judged for it at school, and with time, I began to shrink, until I stopped singing, thinking that it was not one of my best qualities.
But when I started journeying into the shamanic realms, the spirits kept inviting me: Use your voice. Trust it. Let it out.
When I began holding ceremonies for others, something unlocked. My voice came through more loudly, more wildly, more freely than I ever imagined. It was no longer about pitch or perfection. It was about energy, presence, transmission.
And the more I sang, the more I understood: my voice wasn’t just mine – it was a bridge. The energy of love, joy, healing, power was moving through my voice, straight into the people’s hearts. I was singing love, and love was being received.
This is the true power of the voice. Not to perform, but to transmit. To open a portal to what is sacred. To embody and share the energies that move through us—unseen, but deeply felt.
Your voice has that power too.
Let it rise.
